CYGNET is a lovely traditional clipper-bowed Maine ketch designed by Thomas Gillmer and built by the famous builder Joel White of Brooklin Boat Yard. She has been lovingly cared for by her owning family and constantly maintained and upgraded. The boat is strip-planked and classically finished in a simple seamanlike style throughout, but also incorporates many modern features in her rig, engine and electronics.
This seaworthy classic is a delight to sail with an easily managed divided rig.
There are two berths in her forward cabin area plus a small single. Her head and shower are forward as well and serviced by a pressure water system along with her galley. There is a deep sink, four burner gimbaled stove & oven, and large capacity ice chest for her galley. A ‘Chummy' charcoal heating stove gives the cabin a warm glow on a Foggy night.
Moving aft, one passes through the extremely large open self-bailing cockpit and reaches the companionway down to the separate aft cabin. There are two full berths aft along with a dedicated head.
All of CYGNET's living spaces are light, well-ventilated and fitted with screens.
Underway, the boat is a treat. Her ketch rig provides a fine cruising speed and is also easily furled and handled. She features a centerboard and wheel steering.
This is a boat for the sailor who appreciates the style and flexibility of the ketch rig as well as the special “ride” of a finely designed and built wooden boat.
